In the context of financial cuts, the Newsletter on Aegean Prehistory will be issued every two months, covering the following months: September-October, November-December, January-February, March-April, May-June. It will basically be issued at the end of the second month (October, December, February, April, June). Lectures, call for papers, or other urgent announcements will be sent to our members by email.
Due to the still ongoing financial crisis, many of our Greek members have not been able in the last years to renew their membership, so we can no longer meet our financial obligations. There are many members who have not renewed their membership for three continuous years.
Our new academic year began with an excellent excursion to Mycenaean Achaia! We had the opportunity to visit the most important archaeological sites of Mycenaean times that are scattered in Achaia. We warmly thank the members of Aegeus who came to the excursion. We would like to extend our warm thanks to the archaeologists of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Achaia Konstantina Aktypi and Michalis Gazis for any help they offered us.
As every year, we would like to inform you that in order to raise money for the aims of our Society we are organising a fundraising raffle with tickets for 3 Euros. The results will be announced during our Annual Meeting on June 3.The membership fees and the fundraising raffle are the only means to cover Aegeus' expenses. Unfortunately, since last year membership fees are taxed, so, only for taxes, we pay the amount of ca. 1200 euros per year. For this reason, we would be grateful if you could support us buying a few tickets. At least 10 prizes will be given. The first prize is 4 nights stay for 2 people at the luxury hotel VOREINA GALLERY SUITES, including breakfast and a private pool in the traditional settlement of Pyrgos in Santorini (valued at 1500 Euros, with an open invitation for one year).
Aegeus celebrates its ten years! To celebrate this important moment, we are organizing our first tour. In collaboration with our colleagues at the Ephorate of Antiquities of Achaia, we will take an excursion to Mycenaean Achaia on 29-30 June. The programme will include a visit to the most important archaeological sites of Mycenaean times, an overnight stay, two lunch meals and, of course, coach travel. Some of the archaeological sites will open the afternoons exclusively for us (always in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Achaia)!
