Digitization of 200 publications on Greek prehistoric archaeology

We are happy to inform you about a new section on our website. The new section presents 200 digitized publications on Greek prehistoric archaeology, published from 1847 to 1955. Many of the digitized publications belong to archaeologists who have marked prehistoric archaeology, such as Heinrich Schliemann, Arthur Evans, Alan Wace and Carl Blegen. One of the aims of this project was to digitize unknown and hard to find publications. Special attention was also paid to the digitization of publications of Greek archaeologists, such as Christos Tsountas, Panagiotis Stamatakis, Joseph Hatzidakis, Stephanos Xanthoudidis, Antonios Keramopoullos, Nikolaos Kyparissis and Spiridon Marinatos. All of them, with their significant and almost unknown work, founded Greek archaeology.

The digitization of the 200 publications came into being due to a sponsorship of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports, which we warmly thank. All digital files were thoroughly edited for better presentation. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) has been added to the digitized files of foreign publications for easier use. All publications are open access and free to download.

The publications are presented in chronological order in order to show the evolution of Greek prehistoric archaeology through them.
