Antiparos is one of the least archaeologically researched Cycladic islands. Apart from surveys at the famous cave, information about Antiparos’ antiquities is provided by the “excavations” of Th. Bent, the limited surveys mainly by foreign researchers and the excavation of the EC cemetery of Krasades by Chr. Tsountas. The picture has begun to change in recent years as the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades carries out surveys and excavations on the island, that provide valuable new information both for the history and topography of the island in prehistoric and historical times as well as for the Cycladic archaeology in general. Two prehistoric sites have been relocated, known from the older bibliography; in one of them, dating from the LN period period, interesting archaeometallurgy remains have been observed. A MCIII/LCI settlement with its cemetery has been located and partly excavated revealing comparatively very rich findings that testify to the importance of “wider Paros” in the network of islands of the so called “western string”. As for the historical period, excavations at two coastal sites provided important evidence for the cultivation and production of wine in the Hellenistic period, as well as for the economic, and very probably political dependence of Antiparos from the neighboring island of Paros.
