Considerations of the Scale of Radiocarbon Offsets in the East Mediterranean, and Considering a Case for the Latest (Most Recent) Likely Date for the Santorini Eruption

Radiocarbon 54:3-4 (2012): 449-474.

The debate over the dating of the Santorini (Thera) volcanic eruption has seen sustained efforts to criticize or challenge the radiocarbon dating of this time horizon. We consider some of the relevant areas of possible movement in the 14C dating—and, in particular, any plausible mechanisms to support as late (most recent) a date as possible.

Problems in the Measurement, Calibration, Analysis, and Communication of Radiocarbon Dates (with Special Reference to the Prehistory of the Aegean World)

Radiocarbon 54:3-4 (2012): 423-434.

Radiocarbon dating encounters (1) problems of reservoir effects and regional/seasonal variation affecting the chronological reliability of measurements, (2) problems of calibration of measurements via comparison with tree segments of known dendrochronological dates,

The Chronology of Tell el-Daba: A Crucial Meeting Point of 14C Dating, Archaeology, and Egyptology in the 2nd Millennium BC

Radiocarbon 54:3-4 (2012): 407-422.

Radiocarbon dating at the Tell el-Daba site in the Nile Delta has created an enigma for many years. Despite great efforts, the difference of about 120 yr between the chronology based on 14C dates and the one based on archaeological evidence linked to the Egyptian historical chronology has not been solved.

Settlement and Social Trends in the Argolid and the Methana Peninsula, 1200-900 BC

Oxford

Settlement and Social Trends in the Argolid and the Methana Peninsula, 1200-900 BC This research centres on the ideology and socio-economic practices of the communities in the Argolid and the Methana Peninsula (Peloponnese, Greece) that existed during approximately 1200 BC through 900 BC. A thorough examination of mortuary practices, the built environment, ceramic material and metal objects demonstrate that during this transitional period an ideological shift took place alongside complex socio-economic developments.

An Archaeological Survey of the Gournia Landscape. A Regional History of the Mirabello Bay, Crete, in Antiquity

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

An Archaeological Survey of the Gournia Landscape. A Regional History of the Mirabello Bay, Crete, in Antiquity This project was conceived in 1991 by L.V. Watrous. At that time, the Mirabello Bay area had been the focus of excavation at various sites - e.g., Vasiliki, Mochlos, Kavousi, and Pseira - for a number of years. Moreover, two surveys had just been completed in the Istron and Kavousi areas.

στο A. Esposito & G.M. Sanidas (επιμ.), «Quartiers» artisanaux en Grèce ancienne. Une perspective méditerranéenne (Lille 2012): 125-154.

The study concerns the question of the existence or not of specialized artisans areas in Geometric Greece. Since it is not possible to present the data from the entire Greek world, the discussion concentrates mostly in the comparison between Attica and Euboea.

Espaces de la production céramique et spécialisation artisanale entre Bronze et Fer en Égée

στο A. Esposito & G.M. Sanidas (επιμ.), «Quartiers» artisanaux en Grèce ancienne. Une perspective méditerranéenne (Lille 2012): 107-124.

This paper is the first step of a common work aiming at a definition of pottery production through consideration of artisanal space and comparison with other kinds of data like technical characteristics of the products or textual sources.
