Eυθύς μετά την ίδρυση του ελληνικού κράτους, το 1830, που ακολούθησε τον μεγάλο Aγώνα του 1821, τέθηκαν στις πρώτες κυβερνήσεις τα μεγάλα προβλήματα της οικονομίας, της διοίκησης και της εκπαίδευσης. Tο τελευταίο αυτό πρόβλημα περιλάμβανε και τις αρχαιότητες τις οποίες επί αιώνες λεηλατούσαν και κατέστρεφαν οι αρχαιοκάπηλοι.

Since 1974, the New York Aegean Bronze Age Colloquium has hosted discussions of the latest discoveries and research in the Aegean region from the Palaeolithic through the eighth century BCE. Past directors of the Colloquium include Guenter Kopcke, Malcolm Wiener, and Robert Koehl. Presently, the Colloquium is co-directed by Jason Earle, Jerolyn Morrison, and Michael Nelson.
Iconography of Deities and Demons in the Ancient Near East (IDD) is designed as a companion to the Dictionary of Deities and Demons in the Bible (DDD), edited by Karel van der Toorn, Bob Becking and Pieter van der Horst (Leiden: Brill, 2nd edition 1999). Its focus will be on visual sources, which are essential for interpreting the religious symbol systems of antiquity.

H Εγκυκλοπαίδεια Μείζονος Ελληνισμού (ΕΜΕ) είναι ένα πρωτότυπο ηλεκτρονικό έργο με αντικείμενο τη συλλογή, καταγραφή, τεκμηρίωση, παρουσίαση και προβολή των ιστορικών δεδομένων της παρουσίας του ελληνικού πολιτισμικού στοιχείου σε όλη τη χωροχρονική του εξέλιξη. Η ΕΜΕ περιλαμβάνει κυρίως λήμματα από περιοχές που βρίσκονται εκτός των συνόρων του ελληνικού κράτους.
Η Ιτιά είναι ερευνητική ομάδα με κύριο πεδίο μελέτης την υδρολογία, τη διαχείριση υδροσυστημάτων, την υδροπληροφορική και την υδροκλιματική στοχαστική. Το όνομα «Ιτιά» είναι από το γνωστό υδροχαρές φυτό. Αποτελείται από 18 μέλη, με συντονιστή τον Δημήτρη Κουτσογιάννη. Η Ιτιά είναι ανοιχτή ομάδα και έχει συνεργαστεί με συναδέλφους απ' όλες τις ηπείρους.
