30th EAA Annual Meeting, Session 354: Scene City. Settlement aggregation and community transformation in the built environment of the eastern Mediterranean between IV-II illennia BC – Call for papers

Rome, 28 – 31 August 2024 Deadline for paper submission: 12 February, 2024 Deadline for poster submission: 8 April, 2024 The purpose of this session is to explore the socio-cultural transformations which characterise the passage from villages to urban centres using architectural evidence as the favourite analytical data-set. It also aims to discuss this multiform phenomenon of change through examples from the Eastern Mediterranean region, including the Aegean, Cyprus and the Levant, during the IV to the II Millennia BC.

Η συστηματική ανασκαφική έρευνα, η οποία διεξήχθηκε κατά τους μήνες Οκτώβριο και Νοέμβριο 2023 στον λόφο Καστέλλι στην Παλιά Πόλη των Χανίων, υπό τη διεύθυνση της δρος Μαρίας Ανδρεαδάκη-Βλαζάκη και με φορέα την Εφορεία Αρχαιοτήτων Χανίων, έφερε στο φως νέα, πολύ σημαντικά ευρήματα που εμπλουτίζουν τις γνώσεις μας για την ιστορία και αρχαιολογία της πόλης των Χανίων.

Rome, 28 – 31 August 2024, Sapienza University of Rome Paper submission deadline: February 12th, 2024 Poster submission deadline: April 8th, 2024 Our session aims to bring together scholars working on second-millennium BCE burials in the Mediterranean, who integrate different approaches to unravel past social practices surrounding burials and their meanings, essential for the constitution of the community of the dead and the living.

30th EAA, Session 1008: Food Processing and Cooking Practices in Europe, North Africa, and Western Asia (Neolithic to Iron Age) – Call for papers

Rome, 28 - 31 August 2024, Sapienza University of Rome Deadline for paper submission: 12 February, 2024 Deadline for poster submission: 8 April, 2024 We intend to: examine the material characteristics of artefacts, structures, and facilities for food production; uncover the tools employed in the creation of food products; explore the allocation of settlement areas for food production and the production itself. The extensive chronological and geographical scope considered allows us to elucidate how these practices change in tandem with economic and social structures from the Neolithic to the Iron Age.

Sphakia Survey – New Website

The Sphakia Survey website is only one of the Survey’s publications. The others include preliminary publications, and a video about the methods and possible results of archaeological field survey. The team is currently working towards a final publication in two volumes.

Second International Workshop on Relations Between the Indus and the Aegean in the Bronze Age: Commodities and exchange – Call for papers

University of Oxford, 29-30 November 2024 Deadline for paper submission: 29 February 2024 This workshop will specifically concentrate on those commodities that are believed to have originated in Central and South Asia, such as tin, lapis lazuli and carnelian and the ‘trickle down’ contact that existed through an early world system, which included the Indus, the Persian Gulf, West Asia and Egypt, dating to the second half of the third millennium BC.

Women and archaeological institutions 2nd workshop on Women in the Archaeology of Greece – Call for papers

The 2024 workshop on Women in the Archaeology of Greece will focus on the role played by institutions such as the Archaeological Service, universities, research centers and foreign schools in women’s career developments. It will be held in honor of the exceptional achievements of Veronika Mitsopoulos-Leon (1936-2023), the director of the Austrian Archaeological Institute at Athens from 1964 until 2001.
