Consumption and Production of Greek Pottery in the Sibaritide during the 8th century BC

Jan Kindberg Jacobsen Acta Hyperborea 13 (2013): 1-24.

From the introduction

The present article analyses two aspects of the cultural and material interaction between the Greek and the indigenous populations in northern Calabria during the 8th century BC. The analysis presents an outline of the local production of Oinotrian-Euboean pottery and the appearance of the earliest imported Corinthian ceramics from the Middle Geometric II and the Late Geometric periods at the indigenous site of Timpone della Motta, close to present day Francavilla Marittima in northern Calabria, and at other indigenous sites in the nearby Sibaritide.
