Kephala, situated at the northeast side of the island of Skiathos, is the only known early Iron Age site of the Sporades thus far. The survey and the excavation of the site revealed a site, the main period of activity of which spanned the Early Iron Age, while it continued to be inhabited until the late Classical era. On the basis of the available evidence, and pottery in particular, Kephala seems to have been an independent, small centre, part of the Euboean koine, which was in close contact with Euboea and Thessaly and served as an ideal connecting link between the central and north Aegean.
