Aegean Lectures 2017-2018

Aegeus-Society for Aegean Prehistory and the Swedish Institute at Athens are very pleased to announce the Aegean Lectures for the academic year 2017-2018. All lectures until April will take place at the Swedish Institute (Mitseon 9, Athens), at 19:00 on the following dates:

“Computational Imaging for Cultural Heritage” workshop

Aegeus participates on the organisation of an educational workshop about the theoretical principles and also specific techniques of 3D object imaging for cultural heritage: Monday, 19 December 2016, 10.00-18.00, Irish Institute of Hellenic Studies, Notara 51a, Athens. Workshop instructors: Konstantinos Papadopoulos (Maynooth University, Ireland), Eleni Kotoula (Yale University), Kiraz Goze Akoglou (Yale University). Workshop seats are rather limited (15)..

Annual Meeting of Aegeus (2 June 2016)

Aegeus is pleased to invite you to its Annual Meeting which will take place on Thursday the 2nd of June 2016, at 6:30 pm, at the British School a t Athens, Upper House.

Aegeus’ work undertaken during the previous year will be presented, and Prof. John Bennet (British School at Athens – University of Sheffield) will give a lecture entitled “What were Aegean texts for?”.

Aegeus-Society for Aegean Prehistory and the Swedish Institute at Athens are very pleased to announce the Aegean lectures for the period January – June 2016 and invite you to our first lecture. The lectures will take place at the Swedish Institute at Athens (Μitseon 9, Acropolis Metro station), every month.

Happy New Year and a new article

We wish you a very prosperous and happy new year! We are pleased to inform you that we have added a review-article in our journal “Aegean Studies”. The review-article, written by Dr Vasso Fotou, is entitled: Calculating the manpower requirements for the construction of Neopalatial buildings in Crete: pitfalls, challenges and possibilities. A significant donation from the Archaeological Receipts Fund (TAP)

It is our great pleasure to inform you that the Archaeological Receipts Fund (TAP) donated to the library of Aegeus dozens of monographs on prehistoric archeology, as well as the journals Αρχαιολογικό Δελτίο and Αρχαιολογικά Ανάλεκτα εξ Αθηνών. We would like to express our warmest thanks to the Archaeological Receipts Fund for this important donation.

Aegeus begins the new academic year with a significant donation! The Archaeological Society at Athens donated to the library of Aegeus dozens of monographs on prehistoric archeology, as well as the journals Αρχαιολογική Εφημερίς, Praktika and Ergon. We would like to express our warmest thanks to the Archaeological Society and in particular to the Secretary General Dr Vasileios Ch. Petrakos for this very generous and most valuable donation.

Experimental Archaeology Activity: Prehistoric Weaving – a few photos

On April 29 Sophia Tsourinaki, professor and ancient textile specialist, led a tour at SEN Heritage Looms of the Society for the Education of Young Women (SEYW). We would like to thank her for this tour, and in particular for her introductory presentation on prehistoric weaving equipment and techniques. It is our pleasure to note that the tour was attended by a lot of people who are not prehistoric archaeologists!

Theodoros Giannopoulos’ lecture

We would like to thank cordially Theodoros Giannopoulos for his excellent lecture on the Indo-European problem and the “Coming of the Greeks”. We would, also, like to give our sincere thanks to the numerous members and friends who attended the lecture.
