Next Aegean Lecture on 11 April

Aegeus and the Swedish Institute at Athens are happy to invite you to the lecture: ‘The Ayia Irini sanctuary in Cyprus: Facing the challenges of an old excavation', by Giorgos Bourogiannis (Postdoctoral researcher, Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm).

The lecture will take place at the Swedish Institute at Athens (Μitseon 9, Acropolis Metro station), on Friday 11 April 2013, 19:00.

Anastasia Papathanasiou’s lecture

We would like to thank warmly Anastasia Papathanasiou for her excellent lecture on the Neolithic Alepotrypa Cave and the surrounding area. We wish her the best of luck for her ongoing research. We would, also, like give our sincere thanks to all members and friends who attended the lecture.

Five years of Aegeus

This March Aegeus reaches its fifth birthday, and is celebrating with new activities!

We are very happy to announce the publication of the first article of our journal, Aegean Studies, by Iro Mathioudaki, ‘Shifting boundaries: The transition from the Middle to the Late Bronze Age in the Aegean under a new light’. At the present the article is published in an electronic form (html), while the official template of Aegean Studies will be available after the updating of the website.

Next Aegean Lecture on 21 March

Aegeus and the Swedish Institute at Athens are happy to invite you to the lecture: ‘Neolithic Alepotrypa Cave and the surrounding area: Past and present research', by Anastasia Papathanasiou (Ephorate of Palaeoanthropology and Speleology of Southern Greece).

The lecture will take place at the Swedish Institute at Athens (Μitseon 9, Acropolis Metro station), on Friday 21 March 2013, 19:00.

Constantinos Paschalidis’ lecture

We would like to thank warmly Constantinos Paschalidis for his excellent lecture on the Mycenaean cemetery at Clauss, Patras. We wish him the best of luck for his ongoing research, the final publication of the findings, as well as his upcoming PhD VIVA at the University of Ioannina. We would, also, like give our sincere thanks to all members and friends who attended the lecture.

An important donation from the Institute of Classical Studies

We are grateful to announce a donation of 650 Euros by the Institute of Classical Studies (of London) to Aegeus. We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Institute for this important donation and in particular for its ongoing support.

Aegeus is growing!

It gives us great pleasure to announce that four new talented fellows have been added to the Aegeus Committee of Fellows since January 2014. The new fellows will be joining the existing team of seven fellows in the daily tasks of maintaining the Aegeus website and producing the newsletter, organizing the Aegean lectures and editing the book review department, as well as contributing to the all other Aegeus events and activities across the society’s departments.

Anastasia Christophilopoulou’s lecture

We would like to thank Dr. Anastasia Christophilopoulou for her excellent lecture on the transformations and innovations in Aegean households and communities, 1200–600 BC. We would also like to thank the large number of members and friends who attended the lecture.

We would like to thank Anna Philippa-Touchais and Gilles Touchais for their excellent lecture on the recent archaeological evidence from the excavations of the MH settlement of Aspis at Argos.
