The Early Bronze Age period (3rd millennium BC) in Kos island is mainly known from cemeteries and isolated graves, since settlements dated to the EBAI and II period have not yet been excavated. These graves are located on the eastern part of the island at Askloupi, the Hippocratean Foundation, at Mesaria (excavated in 1957), and at Tavla near the modern village of Antimacheia. In the area of Mesaria, during a rescue excavation con-ducted in 2008 at the Galathris plot, an EBA II early period (2700/2650-2500 B.C.) cemetery came in light. The cemetery comprised by enchytrismoi of eight adults in six large pithoi, one interment placed directly on the ground and one more enchytrismos in a pithoid vessel.
