The first human habitation in Kythnos goes back to the Mesolithic era. Excavation at the site of Maroulas was a landmark in the study of Aegean Prehistory. Besides Maroulas, other Mesolithic and Neolithic sites have been observed in various parts of the island.

The plateau of Strofilas is a naturally fortified site on the West coast of Andros, suitable for the control of the sea-route towards the Cyclades and in sight of a wide area from Attica and Euboea to Paros. Here extended the remains of a unique in size and state of preservation fortified settlement that based on all evidence provided till now, appears to have flourished in the last phase of the Late Neolithic period, the Final Neolithic.

The present study is dealing with the preliminary analysis of a well-stratified ceramic assemblage from the site of the Heraion on the island of Samos, which was unearthed back in the 1950s by VI. Milojĉić (1961) and dates to the Early Bronze Age II late- III period (2500-2000 BC).

Excavations conducted in the 1950’s in the area of the Hera Temple have revealed a flourishing Early Bronze Age settlement at Heraion dating in the Early Bronze Age II/late-III periods (ca. 2500-2000 BC), which was one of the most important local centres with early urban features in the ‘cultural entity of the North and East Aegean’.

Kephala, situated at the northeast side of the island of Skiathos, is the only known early Iron Age site of the Sporades thus far. The survey and the excavation of the site revealed a site, the main period of activity of which spanned the Early Iron Age, while it continued to be inhabited until the late Classical era.
