Kephala, situated at the northeast side of the island of Skiathos, is the only known early Iron Age site of the Sporades thus far. The survey and the excavation of the site revealed a site, the main period of activity of which spanned the Early Iron Age, while it continued to be inhabited until the late Classical era.

Mycenaean “presence” on the Koukonisi islet, situated in the innermost part of the Moudros gulf (Lemnos), was attested long ago thanks to numerous surface finds (sherds, typical clay figurines etc).

Δέκα χρόνια μετά την αποκάλυψη των αρχικών επιπέδων ενός οικισμού της Ύστερης Εποχής του Χαλκού στην Ηφαιστία, στο κέντρο του κόλπου Πουρνιά στη βόρεια ακτή της Λήμνου, οι γνώσεις μας έχουν εμπλουτιστεί σημαντικά και έχουν προταθεί ερμηνευτικές προσεγγίσεις περισσότερο αξιόπιστες σε σχέση με το παρελθόν. Η έρευνα που διεξάγεται από την Ιταλική Αρχαιολογική Σχολή Αθηνών έχει συμβάλλει σταδιακά στη σύνθεση ενός αρχαιολογικού και πολιτιστικού πλαισίου σχετικά με την πρωιμότερη ανθρώπινη κατοίκηση του χώρου.

Lemnos, opposite Troy, played a decisive role in the cultural sphere of the Northeast Aegean during the Early Bronze Age, due to the island’s excellent geographical location, in front of the entrance to the Hellespont, on the sea route to regions abundant in metal ores and raw materials in Asia Minor, as well as due to its geomorphology.

In this chapter, I will illustrate this conception of archaeozoology through the example of the study of the Cypriot Pre-Pottery Neolithic of Shillourokambos. I will emphasize the particular techniques and protocols developed with the aim to secure the quality of the archaeozoological information as well as a correct approach to the study of historical trajectories.
